UCF student Webster Cook says he took the Eucharist during a Catholic Mass, didn't consume it but held onto it because he wanted to show his friend, who had questions about it, what it looked liked.  He held onto it for nearly a week before returning it yesterday.  The Catholic League, a national watchdog organization wants the university to expel or suspend Cook for his actions.  To Catholics, the Eucharist is the Body of Christ after the priest blesses it.  What do you think?  Are you offended by what happened?  Think Cook should be punished or should everybody just let this go?

Well, I was raised a Catholic and it was sacrileges what this young man did and he needs to apologize. I don't think he should be expelled for it.......but maybe do some community services at the Church where he committed such an act. I am wondering Cheryl was the young man Catholic himself? and if he is then I think he and his family should feel ashame for his actions. The other students or young people should also be talked to THAT IF THEY REALLY WANTED TO SEE WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE......HELLO I don't think any good priest or Church would deny someone's curiousity. SO I AM SORRY THIS HAPPEN......IT REALLY SHOWS DISRESPECT AND NEEDS TO BE RECTIFY in a civil manner. TSK TSK......TO THIS YOUNG MAN.

Adeltonian I hear where you are coming from..BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN different if he had just taking it from the shelves or the glass where is kept.....the mere fact that he accepted it - blessed from the priest IS SACRALEGES...AND DISRESPECTFUL to all Catholics...do I think he should be expelled that's a bit too radical.....NO....but he definately NEEDS TO LEARN TO HAVE RESPECT FOR ANYONE'S RELIGION...letting this go WILL OPEN A PANDORA FOR THE NEXT ONE THAT WAS TO TAKE A FREAKING.......PRAYING CARPET or whatever that's used in Muslim prayer, the Yamika from a Jew.....WE CANNOT CONDONE THIS BEHAVIOR AND BLOW IT OFF...........AS A MERE CRACKER.......

Expelled no, but he needs to be taught the proper way to do something like that.
I agree with Candy about the community service at the church but also if he is Catholic then reeducation in the sacarements.

Not a Catholic however, we Christians seem to have thick skins with many attacks. Good thing this kid didnt steal a Koran. We might be talking about a different story.

To toss him out of school is to much, but he should be punished for what he did. Why couldn't his friend just go with him to church. Sounds like a great cover up after he was caught.

Wow. The Catholic League needs to realize this makes them look like a bunch of hypocritical WHACKOS.

I could understand them saying "we didn't appreciate what this young man did and feel he should apologize" but their excessive and violent treatment of this man violates everything Jesus was SUPPOSED to stand for.

I have lost a lot of respect for the Catholic religion after hearing this story (which is notable since giving pedophile preists a "second chance" had already rendered my opinion of the Catholic Chuch very low)

This is absolutely ridiculous. The kid took a bloody cracker out of the building and they're calling it kidnapping and sacrilege and saying he needs to be expelled?

Not only that but everyone is telling a completely different story. Some are saying he did it on purpose to protest the school and others are saying he did it to explain to his friend more about catholicism. So, seriously, which version of the story is true?

And the sad part about the whole thing is that this is christians making all this fuss. I could see it if, you know, someone did something as egregious as showing a muslim the bottom of his foot--you know, god forbid--but, as the kid said in the video, Jesus was a pacifist. He preached tolerance and love--for the most part--and to hear that christians are sending death threats and are calling for the ruination of this kid's life is absolutely disgusting.

All of this because of a cracker.

Give me a break.

The student's actions may have been wrong, but he shouldn't be expelled from the University of Central Florida, since the incident had nothing to do with his behavior or performance as a student there. The two things are totally unrelated.

Furthermore, anyone who threatens to kill this student over this perceived sacrilege is committing sacrilege, because murder is against the teachings of Jesus Christ. People ought to learn what values and ethics his gospel teaches and expects us to follow before getting into a huff in his name. Those who think murder is compatible with defense of Christianity need to do a serious re-reading of the New Testament in the Bible.

Finally, the Roman Catholic church is at fault here too. Its distribution of communion wafers has gotten far too casual and careless since Vatican II. There's rarely any announcement that communion wafers are reserved for practicing Roman Catholics, and they're no longer placed in the mouth of the recipient by the priest. Anyone can get into line and receive one, in the hand, no questions asked, by a priest, deacon, layman or laywoman. If Roman Catholics feel communion wafers are that sacred, they need to practice better stewardship in how and to whom they distribute them. At this point, they're extremely lax about it.

Great, more religious nut-baggery. It is sacrilege to Catholics, not to anyone else. Get over yourselves and realize the rest of us don't have to have any respect for Catholics nor their beliefs. In the U.S. I could tell you all to worship Satan and smoke crack, and it is well within my rights. SO get over yourselves. Especially when people are sending the man death threats. What wonderful Christian's Catholics must be. It's all peace and love till someone offends your puritanical sensibilities (and I use that term in the loosest sense possible).

I think this is way out of hand. Let the kid go. It's just a religious symbol. There is worse stuff out there. This only makes the Catholic religion less deseriable to people who are looking for a way to god. I think this kid should apologize to the church he took it from just to the priest and he should recive an apology from the church for the people who have threatened his life.

OMG I was raised a catholic. This is insane. You people need to get a life!!! he was given a piece of bread. What crime did he commit?? A hate crime?? HOW?? By taking something that was given to him how is that a hate crime??? There is no way any jury would convict something a church see as a crime and the state see as a crime. This so bizarre and hilarious this whole story just helps me to reconfirm how the catholic faith drove me to atheistism and helps to show to others why religion's will be the down fall of the human race.

What is wrong with these psychotic overbearing religious freaks? Is a cracker worth threatening a kids life over?

This sounds just as ridiculous as all the Allah freaks killing each other over religious beliefs that contradict common sense and reality.

Before you know it, even Catholics will find a excuse to murder each other and call it a religious belief.

What is wrong with this world that anyone gets overbearing and argumentative over a religion.

Religion is nothing but a personal belief. If you don't like others beliefs then ignore them.

Death Threats? While he might benefit from becoming eductated in Catholic Rites, it is the people who are making these threats that should go re-read the very scriptures that they are touting were offended. I don't recall "Thou shall not be offended." But even in my limited religious experience remember, "Thou Shall Not Kill."

I think the Catholic Church has lost sight of what they preach in their persuit of this young man's "crime". I was raised Catholic and though yes, the Holy Communion is sacred, the simple act of taking it from the church should not be one of persecution. The Church wants you to ask youself, " What would Jesus Do? " I think in this case he wouldn't take the kid to court. He'd ask for forgiveness and then give it.

this is why non-believers are non-believers!!! the catholic church is going to persecute this kid for wanting to learn about religion??? if he defaced or disrespected the Eucharist, thats f'ed up but we are going to sue this kid or kick him outta school cause of it...? i thought there was supposed to be seperation from church and state? the school should have no say and there should be ABSOLUTELY NO DISCPLINARY ACTIONS... if a follower of Satan burns the Holy Bible, we are going to sue him??? Get the freak outta hea'!!!

The Catholic League is out of line. I would have NEVER expected them to behave so violently.

I only WISH that there was this much outrage when a priest is caught molesting children.

When its one of their own they are hush hush, cover it up.

I think the young man has learned his lesson, and will probably not repeat this again.

Of course, the Catholic church can always move him to another church since they feel thats justifible punishment for sexually assaulting children.

Its a CRACKER!!! Good grief people! Why threaten someones life over a dry tasteless CRACKER???? He was curious about the catholic religion and did what he did because he was curious. Great way to show what a great religion being 'catholic' is.

Makes me embarrassed to know that I was baptized catholic and went to catholic school for the first 4 years of my education.

And the reaction from those in the religion is laughable. There are a lot more important things in this world, more viable REAL things then the contrived superstition and ritual over some flour and water....

Get a grip on reality catholics and leave the man alone. He apologized for it and that was thrown in his face. The catholic religion disgusts me now more than aver and all this is doing is showing what a travesty catholicism truly IS...

Priests rape young childern and get away with it but let a kid take a cracker home and threaten his life and put him in jail for life.

Get real, the Vatican needs to look at themselves before convicting anyone taking a stupid cracker.

Since he isn't a member of the church, why was he even allowed to take communion in the first place? In every church I've been to, visitors are told to stay put by the ushers when communion is served.

As much as we all would like, we will never be able to control another's actions. Kick him out of the church if the congregation is outraged. Ask him to make a public apology. That is all this merits.

If I understood correctly, the diocese suggested they consider labeling this as a hate crime. That is an insult to all victims of actual hate crimes.

That's because priests molest children so much that we're used to hearing about it. Don't you know, we need something new to get outraged over!

Well, I'm not a Catholic ... but I am a Christian, or try to be. I understand the concept of Communion and what the "bread" and "wine" represent and it does mean alot to me when I participate. I just can't see myself, or anyone else in the churches I've attended chasing some one down or persecuting them if they walked out with a piece of bread. Maybe if I were Catholic, like my wife, I'd understand some of their rituals. I always thought one of the teachings of Jesus was forgiveness but I guess that doesn't apply here.

Its very interesting that they would advocate violence over the symoblic body of Jesus 'the pacifist' Christ. I just can't see Jesus going to the office of the President of UCF and advocating the expulsion of the accused. I really think they need to forgive him and try to open dialogue.

What Would Jesus do? Would he want someone being threatened over a host which is suppose to symbolize his body which died for us because he loved us..sounds kind of hypocritical especially trying to make a hate crime out of it. The Catholic league person sounded hateful!
