Well no one saw this one coming...Alaska's Republican Governor Sarah Palin is John McCain's pick for his running mate.

What do I know right? True. But even the political grunts who live and die for this stuff seem stumped this morning. Last night while watching Barack Obama's acceptance speech, Corrina and I both guessed McCain's pick would be Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty. We've both lived and worked in Minnesota and know of Pawlenty. Can't say the same about Alaska or Palin.

Here's a real quick thought I have about the pick...Might it be hard for the Democrats, Obama and especially Joe Biden, to attack Palin over her lack of experience and whatever else might come up. This is a working mom with 5 kids, her husband works on the North Slope of Alaska in the oil industry and so on...Do you think the Democrats will have to be careful of campaigning against McCain's running mate because she's a woman? Would being too harsh on attacking her make Obama and Biden look "politically" incorrect?

It's interesting...already I've read a blog this morning musing about the debate between Biden and Palin. It mentions Biden being connected to the words smug and arrogant by his critics before. There's no denying his mammoth experience in the Senate compared to Palin's as a two-year Governor - but Biden's biggest challenge at the debate might be just trying to be humble, according to this blogger.

We'll see....Share your thoughts.

I was listening to comments on this very topic on AM 580 Talk Radio on the way home today Cale. I can only repeat what I've heard. The commentator stated that Palin will make short work of Biden, about 1 minute to Biden's 17 in answering the questions. Biden is expected to DOMINATE only the time on the clock ! It'll be real nice watching her chop him off at the knees ! LOL

Hey Cale..... Obama just lost Washington and maybe California with this pick. She will destroy Biden in the debates having him explain voting against the troops and even Gulf War 1. Did you feel the tilt of the earth today with the people on the fense, Hillary women and Conservatives not happy with McCain allllll leaning over to McCain. Bet Obama doesnt even get 200 electorial votes.

Go WSU by the way.

This is a great choice. Now the republicans will be credited for having the first woman working at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. I bet the God King, Barackxese (pronounced Barack zees) is livid that McCain actually has gone for change and picked a woman and all Barack could do is pick the same old standard old white guy.

great choice for who, McCain will be better off with Dan Quall, this Palin woman is a soar loser, look at what she's done if anybody mess with her family, she have them fired and she don't have nothing to do with it, she had one of her staff to try to have her ex-brother-in-law fired from being an officer, cause he's going through a messy custody battle with her sister and then someone was questioning her husband undercover work in the oil business and she used her authority to help cover stuff up and now lawmaker's are spending about $100,000 to investigate the stuff she's been doing, now talk about what?

Well.. If we are going to compare apples and oranges here, she might have an investigation into her part in the firing of a law enforcement officer, and actually has welcomed any investigation.

We are done with the Biden investigation into Plagerism already, and his illustration of not being informed in military structure.

Exellent choice! Democrats will have a VERY hard time going after this woman who brings more to the table then Obama himself does. While Biden says he will "bloody the nose" of his opponet... this woman has a collection of balls that she has torn right off of MANY top politicians that were anything less than honest! This Hockey Mom isn't afraid of loosing a couple teeth in a good fight!

Palin hasn't been convicted of any wrong doing yet.

McCain could have done better, there were many good candidates out there.

As far as her year and a half of experience, it is in a state that has less population than many major cities. I believe that she was also unsuccessful in a bid for the Senate.

However she demonstrated that she had what it took to win when she won her beauty contest title.

Not singling anyone in particular out, and this is just an observation, Republicans on the whole are able to discuss any warts their canidate may have. Democrats , on the other hand, with wide open arms blindly shower their love and admiration on some of the biggest wart-hogs in the land ! But then love is blind so they say ! LMAO

If anyone wants to compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges, bring it on. She may have a few skeletons in her closet but she will not have a warehouse full like the Obama team. Oh wait, that would be apples (Obama) to oranges (Palin). How many times has she passed the buck as in Obama voting "present". Does she have a right reverand such as Jerimiah Wright in her life? I doubt it.

As mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, Palin tried to snatch privately owned land via eminent domain to build a $15 million city arena. Her ploy failed and left taxpayers with a $1.67 million real estate bill Wasilla's still trying to pay off by cutting public services and raising fees. As governor of Alaska, she supported the über-expensive "Bridge to Nowhere" pork barrel project until public outcry grew so great, she backed off. America can afford this sort of "fiscal conservatism"?

Well, I never heard of Palin before today. The first thing I heard was that she is anti-abortion and anti-gay rights and anti same sex marriage.....typical Replican, despite her other "maverick" qualities. I guess McCain had to go all the way to Alaska to find a woman in politics with those outdated ideas in her head. Really, it is more fuel to the fire leading me to vote for Obama ...or write in a better candidate....maybe Paris Hilton. After all, her political ad was the most clever this entire race.

A trick is when you try to fool someone into believing something else. This is a trick that is easy to figure out. This woman can't shine Hillary’s shoes and to think the Republican’s have the audacity to try and perpetrate the fraud on the American public is shameful. This woman is an ex- 2nd place beauty queen still trying to make her mark. She’s good to look at, but I can’t fathom a person with the experience of running a village meeting the challenges of the world. This is the sickest political trick even pulled from the hat of political theater.

There aren’t that many idiots in the United States. Anyway, Hillary’s 18 million votes weren’t just women. She had people from all genders, race and age groups, making up her vote total. This is a sure sign of weakness in the McCain campaign. McCain was shell shocked into making the decision to pick Palin and now he’s going to be ailing. However, I’m glad he did.

Palin isn't liked very much in her own Party.. This choice has already back fired.. Guess the reason we haven't seen many Repubs coming out to back this ticket.. Hasn't been earth shaking excitement from the Repub Party leaders.. Seems she's ticked alot of Repubs off, in her short political career, and is considered to be very vindictive.. Great start on a ticket of change! Don't need another pissed off Repub going to war for the wrong reasons..

...she is not that unknown , on of the posters to FNC has been talking about her for two months now (wish I had listened to him and looked her up sooner) what is most surprising to me is how few people know Joe Biden , on both sides ! After his selection I asked many people and all I got was a “who's he”...yes he has a long track record but it is not at all clear that his actual record will be well received by the general public...I predict most of his “record” will not be openly displayed in this campaign.

Cale, I don't imagine that this is where you'd want my comments which have nothing to do with Gov. Palin or Senator McCain, but all about the never-ending, mind-bending coverage of the Caylee/Casey case. I was very frustrated with last night's repeated, repeated running of the video showing Casey being hauled off again. Surely, fewer showings would constitute a better newscast? And Keith's transmissions were sadly botched,as his words said we should be seeing x, while we were actually seeing y (that is, yet another run of the arrest video)

I am severely disappointed!

To Answer your question AF..I Believe that MOST of us on the right admire and respect Condi..

Particularly in light of where she's been how how much she's accomplished..

I Personally would back her 100% if SHE decided to run for President but I believe that her association with Bush will haunt any Political Future for her..

It's NOT fair..Either to Her OR Bush that this is so but THAT'S the Political reality that an Africn American who chooses to be Conservative such as Condi and Thomas can expect from a LIBERAL Biased Media Conglomerate..
