Cale Ramaker's Blog

When I ran across this article in the New York Daily News this morning, I immediately thought of our frequent bloggers out there! This one is sure to get you talking...

The cable channel, TV One, plans on nightly coverage from Denver of the Democratic National Convention and the nomination of Barack Obama. A hour-long show will immediately follow convention coverage featuring panel members and discussion. There will be no coverage, at all, of the Republican Convention.

Huh you say? Well TV One is a black viewer-centered channel and it's President, Johnathan Rogers says, "We are not a news organization, we're a television network that's designed to celebrate African-American achievement. That's why we're covering this convention. If Hillary were the nominee, we would not be covering this year's convention. My audience is 93% black. I serve my audience."

Now before everyone immediately rips the guy to shreds - think about it for a minute. TV One (I had never heard of it before this article to be honest) claims it's just another cable channel with no centric focus on news. It's a channel devoted to African-Americans. Should it still at least make an effort to cover the McCain nomination party?

Wow..Cale this is interesting as I network a lot and I have not heard of this one either. I will tell you this however, Cory Booker, Mayor of Newark, NJ whose film regarding the elections about 8 years ago won the Rebecca TriFestival...BUG HUM BUG....in any event, before I left..and the re-elections were up..there was already a media driven catering to JUST BLACKS.....I dunno if that was one of them..but I will investigate and get back to you on this one....INTERESTING....as the MEDIA AND Booker's own private media COVERED HIM to kingdom come......I bet if it were the other way around, THEIR BE LOADS OF COMPLAINTS....lol

and to answer your question, NO I wouldn't want them covering McCain since its obvious THEY ARE ALL ABOUT BOH...AND most likely just put McCain in a bad spot......MAYBE knowing this..McCain should get his own media TO COVER HIM....ONLY HIM...wouldn't be a bad idea. The democrats would do anything AND IT WILL GET UGLY to have BOH...as prez......God have mercy.

TV1 actually defended it with their CEO saying he has not choice. (he's black)

McCain should get his own media? How about we just hold the current media accountable for their actions instead.

The mainstream media already caters to Obama, and what is about to happen is when the unity of the party blows up in the Democrats face, they will either have to blackout the event, or let FOXNEWS make them look stupid and biased.

Interesting how the Democrats are trying to push the fairness doctrine to force more voice from the left into markets otherwise wont listen to them, but can't call out their own favorite mainstream media....

Hypocracy at the highest level!

Well, when the Dems control everything and pass the "fairness" doctrine, he will HAVE to cover it!!!

Wait...I didn't think No-bama was black!!!???

I'll pose another question: even if this cable channel says it's not a news network (and doesn't have to abide by the fairness doctrine) - does it become a news network and subject to the fairness doctrine simply by covering one convention?

I don't think it technically becomes a news network because of one convention. However, I would look at it as a direct *endorsement* of Obama. After all, they didn't HAVE to show this convention. I'm sure that several other channels will cover the convention as well. In all likelyhood, the vast majority of viewers who choose to watch Obama's convention on TV One will be those who already support Obama to begin with.

You watch as the mainstream media's numbers crumble on the ratings as everyone switches over to FOX NEWS!...

Thats the dirty little secret nobody wants to admit to.

Interesting that you mention not having to abide to the fairness doctrine.... I say if they really want to bring it, then lets just do that, and shut down NPR and PBS then!

I've known about TV1 for almost a year and half now,it's pretty interesting.I'm sure you saw it too or went past it while clicking through the stations. It's like BET,or for that matter TELEMUNDO etc etc.I'm surprised it's gone political,I thopught it was a purely entertainment channel.

Funny no one pointed out that this station is playing the “race card”....Just as no one pointed out that “news stations” are exempting themselves from actual accountability and any shadow of fairness by playing the same card ...most of the world is convinced that McCain is not even running a race at all because anyone watching any news program will only see Obama and even Hillary on every news segment ...while it is not uncommon to not see McCain (even if accusations are made against him)

Face it the ultimate liberal scam is the use of the excuse that “Obama is Black and that is news” to run as much Democratic statements as they PERSONAL WANT TO RUN !
