The National Basketball Association (NBA) has proved, once again, why it's a second-tier sport in America. The Seattle SuperSonics, one of the league's steadier franchises and winner of a league title, are moving to the dust bowl...err Oklahoma City.

The NBA and the Oklahoma-based owners paid out millions to escape Seattle for a city not even a quarter the size of Seattle. Good luck Oklahoma City filling up those 20,000 seats every night...after the new-ness of the team wears off. Sure the arena will fill up for the first season or two. I mean this is the greatest thing to happen in Oklahoma City...maybe ever. But eventually the lack of mass will have the team ownership demanding more taxpayer money.

Sports is nothing more than money. The SuperSonics move proves it. Long before Seattle fans rooted for the Mariners or the Seahawks, there were the Sonics. In fact many still argue Seattle is a Sonics town before anything else. The World Championship in 1978 is, to this day, the city's only professional championship.

I thought it was nuts... but didnt the Microsoft guys get bored with them? Maybe no attendence... ? Like the First place Tampa Rays who sweep the Boston team and only gets 16000 fans to show up.

WOW this sucks!!! Really it does. Seattle looses it's only championship team in history so it can go to Oklahoma. I Missed something?! Seattle needs to get behind their team and do something start a petition or something. You know this does not just affect Seattle but the whole state of Washington. Think about it Cale you and I are both from Washington so you will understand this. If the team goes Washington is going to loose it's most valuable team and the only sport that they can win a championship in. DAMN. Why did they have to be so money hungry?

This was all about lies and deception. I love the Sonics and remember seeing many of their games and I am only happy that at least the name and stadium are there in case someone wants to pick up the mantle.

I spent 15 years in Washington and I have to tell you the Sonics were my favorite basketball team. This one really pisses me off because people in Seattle have been loyal to the team since day one. What a slap in the face.

Oh yeah, the Seattle Sounders have 4 championships to their credit. 1995, 1996, 2005 and 2007. Maybe people will turn out for their games now. Sad it would take moving a basketball team to make people recognize they have one of the best football(soccer) teams in the US in their backyard.

It'll be interesting to see how hard the politicans on the local and state levels in Washington work to re-renovate Key Arena for a potential "new" Sonics team. It says something about the NBA when its commissioner, David Stern, brags about how great Key Arena is (he did that in 1995, right after the renovation) and then barely 10 years later calls it "the worst arena in the NBA." Please...

David Stern has always been a weasel. He let his buddy buy and lie about keeping the team in Seattle. Why even move to Oklahoma City? Aren't there already 3 teams in nearby Texas? What not have put the team in St Louis? Doesn't make sense. Then again the ref scandal has also been swept under the carpet. We all know the leagues urged refs to favor certain teams, so Seattle losing the Sonics like this should be no surprise.
