I know what you're saying: This is getting ridiculous! Just as it appeared oil prices might be nudging their way down, they have shot up with vigor. Why? A report this Friday morning from one guy with Morgan Stanley saying prices will reach $150. One guy? That's according to a report from the Associated Press.

The A.P. credits (or in our case it would be chastises) Ole Slorer, a oil futures analyst with Morgan Stanley, for leading the $7 a barrel price charge to start the morning. Apparently Slorer wasn't happy enough with the over $5 a barrel gain from yesterday? That's over $12 in two days!!! And who says are prices are not being driven, at least in part, by speculators?

It seems everytime you turn around, more people have their hands in the jar as people say. This is very bad in the sense that when oil prices go up, everything else goes up with it. I remember when twenty dollars could feed my family for almost two weeks, now it takes over twice that amount to feed us.

This kind of makes me sick to my stomach.

Ive always maintained that these wall street guys have more control of oil prices than oil companies, opec or the government.

I think this is just a counter response to the SEC looking into price fixing.

I think we should some how be able to prevent these people from being able to influence the gas prices. This makes me sick! Prices finally begin to drop and because of this man...here we go again! I HAVE A GREAT IDEA WHY NOT PUT ALL THOSE SPECULATORS ON THE SAME PLANE WITH SUSAN SARANDON!!!

Meanwhile McCain and the rest of the liberals on Global Warming are looking to destroy us alltogether with this carbon credit bill!!

The amount of people in this country that supported leaving domestic oil and Alaskan drilling dropped by HALF in the last week! Yet the media isn't reporting it!

In short, the media and politcs is trying to drive the American focus on the Iraq war once again, and NOT at enviromentalist who STILL refuse to debate their evidence!

We have Democrats calling yet AGAIN for more testimony and investigations into Big Oil and gouging, but we can't get anyone to do the same with Global Warming folks!

I challenge our leaders to throw baseball and football out, and bring forth Global Warming pundants, AND the folks on the other side and lets have a televised debate/investigation into it!

I think that the price of oil in one way is a good thing. It will make America focus on doing things smarter. People will move closer to work, invest in cars for their fuel efficiency rather than their power or appeal.

I already see more than 5 times as many people commuting by bike or the small electric scooter's. This to me has been a long time coming. So while the price of oil and it's effect on the economy are bad, it also has some good things too. People are becoming smarter and getting rid of that "god given right" to drive their SUV's and big trucks in exchange for smarter modes of transportation.

So with the high prices some good is coming out of it. As for the comments on Global Warming being a myth, well if you believe that then you are truly easily misled. I continue to find it funny when I hear this. Fox should do a sitcom where they put a bunch of these guys in a room to talk up their "conspiracy theorys." It could be funnier than "The Big Bang Theory."

Ok, if buying oil from Opec is suppose to preserve our reserves of oil, that explains why we are not drilling at home, also why Bush insists on buying and storing Opec oil.
Alaska and Gulf oil would bring down the inflation, but people would still blow it out their tailpipes.
If any good comes out of this, it will be that we are forced to cut back on consumption and find alternatives.
With the landing on Mars, people complain about NASA's costs, without considering NASA's value to national defense which in these times is crucial.
What I do not understand is why the government is stalling trying to get us off oil.
There should be a NASA team on alternative energy for homes and alternative travel solutions on the boards.
That Bush and Stanley Morgan gets fat on oil is not the problem.

So many reports, which one do we consider most accurate? In receiving on line newsletters, this is one topic I came across, and I found it very interesting in with which to share since this subject is in the thoughts of many people. The 3 paragraphs below I found very interesting in which to point out. From the on line Reason Magazine. I hope you found the article as interesting as I did. But to read the article in it's entirety the link is as follows:

http://www.reason.com/news/show/125414.html

Quote:

What effect does the falling dollar have on the price of crude? Most oil price contracts are denominated in dollars. The dollar has fallen in value by more than 30 percent against a Federal Reserve index of major currencies since 2002. This means that the price of imports, including oil, have gone up. To some extent, the chief of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Chakib Khelil was correct when he said earlier this week, "What's happening in the oil market is due to the mismanagement of the U.S. economy." Continuing U.S. trade and fiscal deficits along with lower interest rates are stoking inflationary fears.

That brings us to speculation. Evans observes that since September 2003, the total number of open crude oil futures and options contracts rose by 364 percent. Meanwhile the global demand for petroleum rose by just 8.2 percent. "So the futures and options market has become more important than the physical supplies in driving the price," concludes Evans. "We are seeing investment flows into the oil market that don't have anything to do

with the demand and supply of oil."

Investors are treating oil as a hedge against inflation and a falling dollar. Oil markets are part of a positive feedback loop in which higher oil prices contribute to higher inflation, which in turn lowers the value of the dollar, which boosts oil prices, and so forth. In other words, the oil market is coming to resemble the gold market (which has also been soaring). Evans notes that most gold traders don't even ask the question of how much gold was mined last year or how much spare gold mining capacity there is.

Think out of the box folks! Lets not dwell so much in what is "reported" in a single case, but look at events this week that have a common denomenator....

What else happen this week... What was said by American leaders to AIPEC? That Iran needs to be squelched, and Israel MUST be recognized as its own free state! WHO in this world does not have their own military(s) but has the power to cripple the nations that do, and what would they use to do that.....

Remember that some European nations lay in bed with these same OPEC guys and support EVERYTHING they do! Remember that Germany, France and others objected to going into Iraq, and have been implicated in food for oil and other financial games otherwise frowned upon.

All those enviromental nuts, need to stop walking with their heads in the clouds holding hands with a coke and singing.. and start thinking about energy independance! If you think that oil prices will just bring out wind, solar, and other alternatives next week then you are going to really get a rude awakening.... Sure.. do all that stuff, but do NOT dismiss oil and nuke power! Even France understands the power of nuke energy!

So something to think about, in light of the above, because of allowing others to invest in our retirement funds while we work, how would you feel if you found out that many of our own American Investing Companies are causing a large part of this problem? Therefore are we in essence creating a good part of this oil crisis ourselves without even knowing it? I for one am very involved with my investments and I demand a frequent activity report so I can make sure my future is well preserved. It will come to a head soon, just think what will happen when all of the Oil Futures are sold in anticipation of a decrease in value.

So many speculators...so few bullets! It's obvious
that these are the main culprits in the destroying
of America. All to make the investors a pretty penny to send little Jeffrey to Harvard while
the rest of us eat rubbish so we can pay
the mortgage. When is it enough??

LOL! Harvard.... Did ya know that just ONE of Harvard's endowment funds is so lucrative that they could fund EVERY student attendings entire annual expenses, PLUS a few thousand more students just on the interest alone! They made somewere between 23 and 27% on their investment last year, and will be in the Billions very shortly! THIS is just Harvard!

I NEVER hear anything about "Big College" and the profits they make. I see many in govt. working to hand out loans for the students, so to afford such expensive places, and the schools are in essense being subsidized this way!

The liberal base of higher education has a pretty good scam going on, but I don't see anyone hauling the Deans or Presidents of the Ivy League before leadership and asking them questions...

It is obvious that speculators are driving prices just like they have in real estate. They don't need or even want the product, but they buy it and sell it for the profit, acting basically as middle men, with Joe Average paying them to do it.

But there's a solution. We can win against the people who buy things just to sell them to us for more the next month. There is a way to take back our lives and live without greed.

Folks, we MUST reduce consumption right now. We MUST buy goods that are made close to home. We MUST buy higher mileage vehicles. We MUST buy solar and other alternatives to reduce demand for energy and transportation.

Or we can keep buying oil, keep driving our lounge chairs on wheels, keep trying to buy bigger houses, and more stuff, keep putting ouselves into debt, keep living beyond our means, and fight each other for scraps.

Ask yourself, Do I really need another junk toy or knick-knack? Do I really need to drive 100 miles a day so my kids can play soccer? Do I really need to buy new things just to feel acceptable to other people? I hope the answer is no. Otherwise America is doomed.

Shadows, I hate to see that "magical" change. If Obama were to be elected I see the war instantaneously switching from Iraq to Darfur. If one hasn't noticed, the United Nations has already begun to set up the beginning stages of this happening. Interesting thought isn't it?

..the simple question IS “who will stop the reign” (rain /reign of terror LOL) ...our government has intervened in the stock market in the past and could reinterpret the anti trust law to address this global emergency. All that we need do is “freeze” speculation in the oil market for a few days and the chain would be broken...but far be it for any of our congressmen or senators to do anything more than make attacks against the “oil industry” (who also is paying the market price right along with the rest of us)

Obama can't save us from high gas prices and neither can McCain.

What about right now, since you bring up the white house? What has THIS administration done that is so darned great?

Why don't you stop the partisan diversion from the issue, and focus on what should be done about it, instead of knocking people who haven't even had a chance to try yet?

Hey Norty , yes we are cutting back on what we use but do you have any suggestions as to how the government will make up the money it is losing on our cutting back ? RE: Florida state is already 30 million dollars short on gas tax income for this year ...so where will the state/local/federal government turn to get the billions they are losing because we are slowing down ?
And YES ! I do NEED more toys , I bought another boat this week and I think I will buy another motorcycle next week ! I am an American and because I urned it I deserve every darn thing I want !

" I am an American and because I urned it I deserve every darn thing I want"

Well that attitude will only put us farther into the hole! When your fellow Americans are suffering high gas prices, I think it's time to ask yourself not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country!

Remember rationing? Would you like to live in an era of ration stamps? I sure don't! I would like to think we can ration ourselves. You know, be rational. LOL
