Well...Here she is finally!  Introducing ~~ THE USS NEW YORK!

Made from the World Trade Center, the USS New York was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center.  It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists.  It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.

Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in  Amite , LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on
Sept 9, 2003, 'those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence,' recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. 'It was a spiritual
moment for everybody there.'

Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the 'hair on my neck stood up.' 'It had a big meaning to it for all of us,' he said.  'They knocked us down.
They can't keep us down.  We're going to be back.'

The ship's motto? 'Never Forget'

 BE PROUD...BE VERY PROUD!

I don't know what Big Brother 10 is so the answer is no.

The ship is the first to be fully designed from the CAD-screen up to support all three of the Marines' primary mobility capabilities. This ship is in honor of those victims of the WTC on 9/11. The USS New York (LPD-21) is a beautiful ship don't you think?

Neat post di ! It's great that the Marines have it and the capability. Wish it was something that wasn't needed though.

...Forging our “plow shiers into swords” it is sad that we had to do this , but it is symbolic and important to show that we will not give up and we will not fail...we did not start this war , but we alone must finish it.

Poetic Justice...

Thanks BTBW..I knew that this was in the works but had NOT heard the latest update....

I can think of NO more Honerable a fate for this Venerable Material then to become an integral part of U.S. Naval and Marine History....

It ranks right up there with the raising of the Flag at Iwo Jima and the Heroic Efforts of Task Unit 77.4.3, or “Taffy Three” in the battle for Leyte Gulf..

Leyte Gulf.. Wow! some history there! Also a night time battle! All your CG-47 Class Aegis Cruizers from Cg47 to CG-73 were named after night time battles! I'm a plankowner of VELLA GULF CG-72 and first SOQ for her.

I can only imagine as the crew ran onboard the New York there wasn't a dry eye to be seen by anyone!
